What are people saying about FEEP?

"As farmers continue to face increasing costs, the data from energy audits and implementing energy saving plans can result in substantial, long-term savings."

— William Upchurch, Executive Director, NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commision

In October of 2008, the North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation and the NC Tobacco Trust Fund Commission partnered together with a vision of helping farmers become more energy efficient on their operations. The result is the NC Farm Energy Program (FEEP). Our program goals are to educate North Carolina farmers about energy efficiency on their farming operations and help them acquire the tools necessary to make energy efficiency improvements.

We strive to accomplish these goals by offering farmers onsite energy audits conducted by professional engineers. Farmers can then take the information gained from the audits and use it to their benefit. By having an assessment conducted on the farm, we can indicate:

  1. Where farms can be more efficient
  2. Ways to increase efficiency
  3. How long it will take for improvements to pay for themselves
  4. Eligibility for USDA and private grants to pay for any recommended efficiency improvements

Many of the individuals that apply for our energy audit process also go on to apply for federal USDA REAP grant money. If you are interested in applying for the REAP grant then please contact your local USDA rural development representative.

The FEEP program also offers two cost-share grant opportunities for farmers. One of our cost-share grants is geared towards helping farmers offset costs incurred while implementing energy efficiency improvements on their farm. The second cost-share opportunity is for farmers that want to implement on-farm renewable energy technology. Renewable energy options include but are not limited to wind, solar, and biofuels.

Applications and instructions for participating in any of our programs, and corresponding deadlines can be found under the applications tab. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us!
